Great Bio-diesel & WVO links

By John in Preparing Bio-diesel, Preparing WVO on March 24 2008

My research has led me to some great websites out there. I hope these help in your research as well.

Bio-Diesel links:

  • Making Fuel:

JourneytoForever.org is a great site for recipes and other important Bio-diesel (SVO&WVO) information:

http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html

BioDieselNow.com is a wonderful site as well. It has many postings from experts in the field. A great post is about making fuel is.

One more site for your research would be Boulderbiodiesel.com. The website author is very informative and has had a lot experience.

Next onto WVO Sites:

One of the more popular sites is Greasecar.com. They have kits as well as a lot of resources for preparing your wvo.

Two of my favorite kits are:

frybrid (Seattle Washington)

Greasecar is another kit listed above.

As you can see there is a lot of information out there, I hope this helps a bit. Remember to help me out in purchasing a WVO Mercedes if possible. My donations go through paypal. Credit Cards are accepted with out having to a paypal member the donation goes through my company that I just started called Camomax.com so dont freak out when you see it. I will soon make a separate account.

Questions Answered, WVO or Bio?

By John in Preparing Bio-diesel, Preparing WVO, Types of Cars, Types of Kits on March 20 2008

Sorry about the last post being so short. For some reason my work kept getting deleted.

Anyway! Here we go which is better for you:

1. Do you live in a warm climate? Bio-diesel can be used in any type of climate. There are definite advantages to living in a warm climate however. The viscosity of any oil is less in warmer temps allowing the engine not to work as hard as it would in cool temp climates. WVO on the other hand needs to be heated. It can run on hot days with out problems but for optimal performance researchers say it should be heated to 16-180 f degrees. You would need a wvo kit for this.

2. Do you mind modifying your vehicle? If the answer is yes, I do mind! Then stick with bio-diesel. The only things you would really need to change on your vehicle are fuel filters and fuel lines. With WVO you should install a kit which does involve some modifications to your car. (Check out the “Types of Kits” categories.)

3. Do you mind working with Chemicals? Producing bio-diesel requires that you work with hazardous chemical while wvo is just filtered veggie oil. (Check out the “Preparing Bio-diesel” category for recipes).

4. Do you feel ok with fuel that has not been researched? Truth is bio-diesel has been around for quite some time and has been researched a lot! The Germans believe that this might be the fuel of their future and America is never to far behind. But, don’t be afraid of WVO! Lately it has seen a surge of research that is helping its validity.

5. How much do you want to spend? The cost of bio-diesel is cheaper to set up. However in the long run wvo will be a better deal. Both fuels need a fuel station that filters wvo. Bio-diesel does require that you use chemicals so you will need to purchase a few more items. $200 to $2200+ can be spent on a station (can you make one cheaper Yes!). WVO requires you to modify your car and put a kit in as well. Kits range from $800 to $2000+ which will set you back in the beginning but again will pay for itself in the long run when you dont need to buy chemicals to mix in.

One more thing you will need to consider is storage for the fuels. Typically you will use two large containers with a possible water heater. You will also need to hook up some filters and pumps. Soo expect to use an area of around 6 by 6.

If you can please donate to my cause of buying a old mercedes and converting it into a veggie car. Next year I will be teaching at a new school that is approx 20-30 miles further away. As you can see gas is not getting cheaper and I would love an alternative.

Please add comments as you see fit links are also appreciated. Have a great day and go Green!!!

Why Homemade Bio-Diesel, Why Veggie?

By John in Preparing Bio-diesel, Preparing WVO, Types of Cars, Types of Kits, Uncategorized on March 19 2008

Before I get started please check my donation meter to see how close I am to starting my wvo vehicle. In the mean time I hope my research and others links will help you on your journey as well. $1 from 5000 people will get me going. Thank you!

According to my research here are a few questions one has to answer before settling on making biodiesel or using filtered Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) for your diesel vehicle.

So, which system is best for you? To answer that question you will need to answer a few questions.

  1. Do you live in a year-around warm climate?
  2. Do you want to modify your vehicle?
  3. Do you mind working with chemicals?
  4. Do you feel ok with fuel that has little research behind it?
  5. How much money do you want to spend?

I will be posting the answers to these questions in my next article. Until then please help me out by donating to my cause. I would love to continue to blogging with your help on my own wvo vehicle. Thank you and keep on veggin!

Hello world!

By John in Preparing Bio-diesel, Preparing WVO, Types of Cars, Types of Kits, Uncategorized on March 18 2008

Let me begin by telling you about myself. I am a 39 year old teacher that lives in Western Washington. I came accross bio-diesel last year when gas prices begain to spike. Since then I have put some serious time into researching what it takes to get a vehicle running on bio-diesel and waste veggie oil (wvo). The recent price hikes in gas has prompted me to begin this blog and ask for donations to buy an old mercedes and turn it into a veggie vehicle. I am hoping to raise $5500. In return I will continue this blog and advertise your name on the car itself. So if you feel like donating please help me raise enough money.
